Bugatti Tourbillon 0-60, top speed and quarter mile, explained

2.0 s to 100 km/h on Bugatti's word, and no independent test yet. 1,800 horsepower from a V16 and three electric motors.

How fast is the Bugatti Tourbillon?

Bugatti claims the Tourbillon reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.0 seconds claimed, 200 km/h in under 5 and 400 km/h in under 25 claimed, and tops out at 445 km/h (276 mph) claimed with the Speed Key (Bugatti spec sheet). Scaled to 60 mph, the 2.0 s becomes about 1.93 s converted, our arithmetic. Power is 1,800 hp claimed: 1,000 from an 8.3-liter naturally aspirated V16 and 800 from three electric motors (Bugatti).

Nobody outside Bugatti has timed one. As of October 25, 2026, Bugatti's latest update describes validation prototypes finishing heat tests in Spain, and no customer delivery has been announced (Bugatti, October 8, 2026). Car and Driver says it hasn't "had the chance to drive one yet" (Car and Driver). Our quarter-mile simulator runs it at 8.80 s at 176 mph estimate. Bugatti will build 250, from 3.8 million euros before taxes claimed (Bugatti).

Why build a V16 now?

Bugatti's engineers say they weighed three options for the Chiron's successor: rework the quad-turbo W16, go fully electric, or start from scratch. "Ultimately, we chose the hardest possible option," chief technical officer Emilio Scervo said at the reveal on June 20, 2024 (Bugatti).

Volkswagen, which owned Bugatti outright until 2021, wanted an electric car. Mate Rimac told Automotive News Europe that the cheap route would have been a rebadged Rimac Nevera, and pushed for the V16 hybrid instead (Motor1, October 2026). It is the first Bugatti in more than 20 years without the W16.

What does 2.0 seconds to 100 km/h mean?

Bugatti, like most European makers, quotes 0-100 km/h rather than 0-60 mph, and its spec sheet says nothing about rollout, the U.S. drag-strip habit of starting the clock after the car has moved a foot. Converted to 96.6 km/h, which is 60 mph, 2.0 s becomes about 1.93 s converted. It is a conversion, not a measurement.

The bigger story is further up the speedometer. Bugatti claims 200 km/h in under 5 s, 300 km/h in under 10 s and 400 km/h in under 25 s claimed. Its own figures for the Chiron were 2.4, 6.1 and 13.1 s, and a Chiron took 32.6 s recorded to reach 400 km/h in the 2017 record run Juan Pablo Montoya drove at Ehra-Lessien, which Bugatti says SGS-TÜV measured (Bugatti).

01Two motors up front

A front e-axle with two 250 kW motors, one per wheel, for full torque vectoring and up to 3,000 Nm at the wheels. It fits in the space the Chiron's front drive used. Michelin Pilot Cup Sport 2 tires, 285/35 R20.

02A watch in the dash

The skeletonized instrument cluster has more than 600 parts in titanium, sapphire and ruby, built to tolerances as fine as 5 microns, and weighs 700 g. It stays fixed while the steering-wheel rim turns around it.

03A battery in the spine

A 24.8 kWh, 800-volt battery, oil cooled, sits in the central tunnel and behind the seats as part of the carbon monocoque. It supplies more than 600 kW and gives more than 60 km (37 miles) on electric power alone.

04Sixteen cylinders, no turbos

An 8.3-liter V16 with a 90-degree vee, developed with Cosworth: 1,000 hp, 900 Nm and 9,000 rpm. It weighs 252 kg. The first complete engine ran on a dyno in 2023.

05A third motor at the back

A 250 kW motor works with the V16 at a new eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, which has an electronic limited-slip differential rated to 2,500 Nm. Rear tires are 345/30 R21, and the carbon-ceramic brakes are brake-by-wire.

06A wing that hides at top speed

Bugatti says the body balances itself at top speed, so the rear wing stays retracted; it rises for downforce at lower speeds and as an airbrake. The diffuser below doubles as the rear crash structure.

How does a V16 hybrid make 1,800 hp?

The V16 alone nearly matches the 1,001 hp the Veyron made with four turbochargers in 2005; the electric side adds 800 more (Bugatti). The three motors are rated at 250 kW each, which adds up to about 1,020 hp, more than the 800 hp electric total; the battery's 600+ kW peak, about 816 hp, is the likelier ceiling derived. MotorTrend estimates the hybrid hardware adds about 661 lb, and says the motors are needed to hold the top speed (MotorTrend).

What would it run in the quarter mile?

Nobody knows yet. Bugatti has published no quarter-mile time, and no independent tester has had a car. Our simulator uses 8.80 s at 176 mph estimate, to be replaced by the first timed run.

Until a timed run exists, treat 8.80 s as a placeholder.

Bars show seconds over eight, so shorter is quicker. ZR1X (Chevrolet) and Demon 170 (Stellantis) recorded on each maker's own timed pass on a prepped strip; Tourbillon estimate.

What is the Tourbillon's top speed?

445 km/h (276 mph) with the Speed Key and 380 km/h (236 mph) without it claimed (Bugatti). Some outlets convert it to 277 mph. Both are electronic limits, not a measured maximum, and no top-speed run has been published.

Bugatti stopped chasing records after a Chiron Super Sport 300+ prototype ran 490.484 km/h (304.773 mph) recorded at Ehra-Lessien in 2019, with TÜV witnessing it. That was one run in one direction, so it was never a two-way average, the measure record keepers prefer. In November 2025, president Christophe Piochon said "I'm quite confident that we will set some new records" with the Tourbillon (Road & Track). The highest speed any maker now claims for a production car is BYD's 496.22 km/h (308.4 mph) for the Yangwang U9 Xtreme, one run in one direction at Papenburg in 2025 claimed.

What people are saying

Reaction split four ways. These are opinions, quoted with links.

The defiance

"So yes, it is crazy to build a new V16 engine."Mate Rimac, Bugatti

Rimac said it is "what Ettore would have done," and later explained he rejected Volkswagen's plan for an electric car.

The sound

"It has always been a little bit dirty and raw, so we decided to keep that."Romain Volatier, Bugatti, Bugatti

Bugatti says the V16 meets a 72-decibel noise limit and passed homologation "with flying colors."

The speed question

"We believe the automaker targets 300 mph."MotorTrend, 2024, analysis

That is MotorTrend's guess, not a Bugatti claim; Bugatti has only said it expects new records.

The wait

"The big chunk of the project is done and we are here just to close this chapter."Paolo Magrone, Bugatti test driver, Bugatti

Customers were promised cars in 2026. With ten weeks left, Bugatti's updates still show prototypes.

The consensus: almost everyone likes the idea of a naturally aspirated V16 and a mechanical watch for a dashboard, and the numbers Bugatti claims are a clear step past the Chiron. What nobody can say yet is how quick it really is: there is no customer car, no magazine test and no timed run, so every performance figure on this page is still Bugatti's word or our math.

Things most people don't know

01

It is named after a watch part

A tourbillon is a rotating cage that cancels gravity's effect on a watch's balance, invented by a Swiss-born watchmaker working in France in 1801. With the W16 gone, Bugatti also dropped its habit of naming core models after racing drivers.

Bugatti

02

Pull to start, push to stop

The engine starts with a pull lever in a crystal-glass center console, developed over 13 stages so it stays clear and safe in a crash.

Bugatti

03

The screen hides

A touchscreen rises from the console only when wanted: portrait mode for the reversing camera in two seconds, full landscape in five.

Bugatti

04

No speakers

The audio system uses exciters that turn the door panels and other trim into speakers, which Bugatti says is lighter than conventional drivers.

Bugatti

05

The suspension is printed

Organic-looking suspension arms and uprights, 3D-printed in aluminum, cut suspension weight by 45% against the Chiron's.

Bugatti

06

Over 200 thermocouples

The prototype tested in Seville carried more than 200 temperature sensors, with road temperatures near 45 °C and an earlier prototype running above 50 °C in Dubai.

Bugatti

07

A Polo got there first

The first known Tourbillon crash wasn't on a track: a Volkswagen Polo rear-ended a test car at a red light in Spain in September 2026, leaving a dented tail.

Motor1

08

Bugatti left Volkswagen mid-project

Porsche sold its Bugatti Rimac stake on September 9, 2026, ending Volkswagen Group ties that began in 1998. Rimac Group keeps 55%.

Porsche

09

Its tires were picked early

Michelin narrowed the tire choice to three sets before testing at Ladoux, while the car was still being developed, because tires take so long to make and validate.

Bugatti

Its neighbors on the strip

In our quarter-mile model the Tourbillon finishes eighth of 21, using our 8.80 s estimate. The car just quicker and the car just slower:

Questions people ask

How fast is the Bugatti Tourbillon from 0 to 60 mph?

Bugatti claims 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.0 seconds. Scaled to 60 mph that is about 1.93 seconds, our conversion rather than a Bugatti figure. Bugatti doesn't say whether it subtracts rollout. No magazine or independent tester has timed a Tourbillon, because no customer car had been delivered as of October 2026.

What is the Bugatti Tourbillon's top speed?

Bugatti claims 380 km/h (236 mph) with the standard key and 445 km/h (276 mph) with the Speed Key. Some outlets round the second figure to 277 mph. No top-speed run has been published, though Bugatti's president said in November 2025 that he expects the Tourbillon to set new records.

How much horsepower does the Bugatti Tourbillon have?

Bugatti claims 1,800 hp combined: 1,000 from an 8.3-liter naturally aspirated V16 developed with Cosworth and 800 from three electric motors. Bugatti's figures are metric horsepower; in U.S. horsepower that is about 1,775 hp, the figure Car and Driver and MotorTrend use.

How much does the Bugatti Tourbillon cost, and how many will be built?

Bugatti says it will build 250, starting at 3.8 million euros before taxes. U.S. outlets estimate $4.1 million to $4.6 million. Each car is hand-assembled in Molsheim, France.

Has the Bugatti Tourbillon been delivered yet?

Not as far as Bugatti has announced. Bugatti promised customer deliveries in 2026, but as of October 2026 its own updates still describe validation prototypes, with hot-weather testing in Spain reported on October 8. Bugatti opened La Manufacture, the Molsheim building where the car will be built, on July 2, 2026.

Is the Bugatti Tourbillon faster than the Chiron?

On Bugatti's claims, yes, in a straight line: 2.0 seconds to 100 km/h against the Chiron's 2.4, and under 25 seconds to 400 km/h against the 32.6 seconds a Chiron took in a 2017 record run. Its 445 km/h Speed Key limit is also above the Chiron's 420 km/h. None of the Tourbillon's numbers has been independently tested.
